Westbound Loop 101 will be closed between 7th Street and 7th Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday, July 12 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 15, ADOT announced. The closure is for bridge work as part of freeway widening project.
Eastbound lanes will not be affected. Westbound travelers will have to exit at Cave Creek Road or sooner, prior to reaching I-17.
The project, expected to be completed in early 2021, will address bottlenecks along the Loop 101 at I-17, Cave Creek Road, State Route 51, and Tatum Boulevard, officials say. According to ADOT, here are some of the overall project plans:
- Add one general purpose lane in each direction between I-17 and Pima Road
- Add an auxiliary lane in each direction between Seventh Street and Cave Creek Road
- Modify freeway ramps and frontage road connections at 10 interchanges
The project also will include installation of quieter rubberized asphalt overlay, drainage improvements, unspecified technological upgrades, and other improvements.
