It’s been a challenging weekend for travelers heading north on I-17.

A crash on I-17 between Daisy Mountain Drive and Anthem Way had all northbound traffic at a standstill Saturday at 1 p.m., causing a 3-mile backup. By about 1:20 p.m. one lane of traffic began moving past the accident, ADOT announced. [Update, 3:08 p.m.: All lanes are clear, ADOT reports.]

More than a dozen emergency vehicles—including ambulances and fire trucks—were on the scene, including Phoenix Fire Department, Daisy Mountain Fire Department and Arizona Department of Public Safety.

During the backup, several drivers diverted at the Daisy Mountain Drive exit and motored up Gavilan Peak Parkway, re-entering the freeway at Anthem Way or continuing up the frontage road to the New River interchange.

Earlier Saturday, ADOT reported backups all along the northbound route, from Carefree Highway to north of Black Canyon City. Friday afternoon, a vehicle fire near the Sunset Point Rest Area stopped all northbound traffic, causing a backup more than 20 miles long, all the way back to Anthem.
