Upstarts Rock Rookies: The Dafneys & Breaklot

The Dafneys, from left: Luke (bass), Jaiden (drums) and Christopher McReynolds.

Touring from Iowa to California, The Dafneys stop for one Arizona show. The Orange County rock band of three brothers is anchored by 19-year-old Christopher McReynolds’ deep, rich vocals, reminiscent of Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder.

The group performs covers and their own songs, drawing from “Facepaint,” a new album on Spotify and iTunes, with gritty ballads, funky, head-bobbers like “Catfish,” and the hard-edged yet poetic “Walk on By.”

Also on the bill: local band Breaklot. Fresh out of a NoPho recording studio, the teen trio debuts songs influenced by classic and modern rock with a hint of juke-joint blues. The moody, melodic “On the Shelf” will get Black Keys fans on their feet. Expect raucous riffs from 16-year-old lead guitarist Joe Barans.

Anthem solo guitarist Austin Dutcher, 19, opens the show with covers and originals.
