UPDATE: See the more recent survey done April 13, 2017.
With two gas stations opening up recently in North Phoenix, it was time for the first NoPhoNews gas price survey. On April 4, between 11 a.m. and noon, we surveyed six gas stations, from Happy Valley to New River. The prices of regular varied by 34 cents, or nearly 16 percent, from the cheapest to the most expensive.
Note: The three Circle K stations in Anthem often if not always have the same prices, as the did on the day of our survey.

For a comparison, the average price of regular fuel in Phoenix on March 30 was $2.20, according to AAA, and statewide it was $2.25. However, prices rose a few cents between March 30 and April 4 at some stations, so the AAA averages not directly comparable with our North Phoenix numbers. (Note that fuel prices are expected to rise 40 cents by summer.)
We did our survey the old-fashioned way, driving to every station to look at the price—covering a total distance of 28 miles. As an alternative, the Gas Buddy App provides real-time pricing for gas stations locally and elsewhere, as reported by other motorists. On this day, the app was within a penny of our our observations on each gas station.
