Three area groups have joined forces to support the armed forces by gathering goods and sending care packages to troops who are deployed. Daisy Mountain Veterans, Youth for Troops and the Military Family Support Group now work together on the effort and are looking for volunteers to help, according to a joint statement recently released.
The next packing event is Wednesday, Oct. 25 at the Anthem Civic Building, 3701 W Anthem Way, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Volunteers (including individuals, families or groups) are encouraged to bring items to donate and plan to write notes, decorate boxes and pack them. Suggested donations include: travel-sized hygiene products, small canned-goods (pop top lids), candy, drink mixes, coffee bags (Folgers Singles), beef jerky, microwaveable popcorn, tuna/meat packets, Pop Tarts, granola bars, energy bars, crackers, DVDs, and CDs.
Also, Youth for Troops will pick up donations and is looking for local businesses to be drop-off locations for donations.
