Southbound lanes of I-17 were closed Sunday night near Rock Springs north of Phoenix after the trailer of a semi truck caught fire. Traffic was rerouted through Black Canyon City. Daisy Mountain Fire & Medical offered a light-hearted assessment of the incident:

“Our crews are still on scene of a semi truck hauling eggs that was on fire,” the agency tweeted last night. “Our crews did an eggcellent job saving the tractor portion of the truck.”

One southbound lane remained closed until sometime after 5 a.m. today, and all lanes are now open, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. There was no word on what caused the fire or where the eggs were headed.

Earlier Sunday, a motorcycle crash on I-17 near New River caused delays in the northbound lanes that extended down to Anthem, ADOT reported.
