I-17 Full Closures Planned Feb. 21-23 at Happy Valley Road

For 15 years, In&Out Magazine has been the definitive source of “Everything that’s going on” in and out of the community. We thank you, our readers, as well as the businesses that support the magazine through advertising, for that opportunity. But with little going on, and many businesses suspending or canceling their ads during the Covid-19 crisis, we are suspending publication of the magazine and web sites for the month of May.

Crews plan to demolish the old Happy Valley Road bridge this weekend and rip out the roundabouts (yay?), forcing some full closures of the interstate.

ADOT plans to close I-17 in both directions at Happy Valley Road from 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21 until 10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23. Happy Valley Road also will be closed at the same times in both directions at I-17. Traffic will be detoured along the off- and on-ramps at the interchange. Happy Valley Road traffic will be switched after closures to the first half of the new bridge.

Expect delays, ADOT says, and consider using Jomax and Pinnacle Peak or Deer Valley roads and 19th Avenue to get around it all.

The new interchange is expected to be completed this summer, with final paving and other aspects of the project lasting into fall. As part of the $49 million project, a new interchange is being built at Pinnacle Peak Road, too, and I-17 will be widened between the two interchanges from four lanes (including the HOV lane) to five in each direction.
