Eastbound Loop 101 will be closed between Cave Creek Road and State Route 51 in north Phoenix from 10 p.m. Friday, July 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 29, for the freeway widening project, ADOT announced.
In addition: The eastbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 7th Street will be closed. And 56th Street will be closed in both directions at Loop 101. Expect heavy traffic and delays.
DETOUR: Consider exiting eastbound Loop 101 ahead of the closure and using alternate routes, ADOT says. Eastbound Loop 101 traffic exiting at Cave Creek Road can travel south to eastbound Union Hills Drive and northbound SR 51 to reach Loop 101. Expect heavy traffic and delays. Note: Alternate routes for 56th Street closure at Loop 101 include Tatum Boulevard.

The project, expected to be completed in early 2021, will address bottlenecks along the Loop 101 at I-17, Cave Creek Road, State Route 51, and Tatum Boulevard, officials say. According to ADOT, here are some of the overall project plans:
- Add one general purpose lane in each direction between I-17 and Pima Road
- Add an auxiliary lane in each direction between Seventh Street and Cave Creek Road
- Modify freeway ramps and frontage road connections at 10 interchanges
The project also will include installation of quieter rubberized asphalt overlay, drainage improvements, unspecified technological upgrades, and other improvements.
