Deer Valley Unified School District (DVUSD) has named seven new principals for the start of the 2017-18 school year, including four in NoPho.
Barry Goldwater High School
Stulc has been in education for 27 years, including 18 as an administrator in the Paradise Valley Unified School District. She grew up on a ranch in central Montana. “During those formative years, I learned many life lessons not only from my large family, but also from nature. I learned the value of hard work and the importance of working cooperatively, supporting and respecting each other,” she said in a statement.
Boulder Creek High School
Sutton takes over for Lauren Sheahan who retired at the end of the 2016-17 school year. Sutton was assistant principal for curriculum, assessment and instruction from 2014-2017 at Barry Goldwater High School, where she also taught and directed plays and musical productions. She has a bachelor of fine arts degree and a masters in educational administration and leadership from Arizona State University. Sutton grew up in a suburb of Chicago and moved to Phoenix in 1989, attending elementary, middle and high school in DVUSD.
Deer Valley Middle School
During her 16 years in education, Powell has taught every subject in eighth grade, as well as high school English language arts classes. She spent four years as an assistant principal, two at Tolleson Union High School District and two at Deer Valley Middle School. Powell has a masters degree in secondary education/reading from Northern Arizona University and an educational specialist degree in educational leadership & policy studies from George Washington University. “This year I am excited to announce our signature program titled Paxton Action Labs,” Powell said in a statement. “Our students will experience career and technical education to prepare them for their next endeavor.”
Stetson Hills School
Mabee has taught in DVUSD and the Osborn School District in Phoenix. The past four years she was assistant principal of DVUSD’s West Wing Elementary School. Mabee is a native Arizonan and graduate of the Arizona public school system, with a degree in education from Arizona State University and a master’s from Northern Arizona University in educational leadership.
