New Gas Station & Store Opens in New River

The Shell gas station, convenience store and Subway at the New River Road exit off I-17 opened this week. The long-awaited station, on a 4.3-acre site on the northeast corner of the exit, has been in the planning stages since 2014.

Construction was expected to begin in 2015 but was delayed after a change in civil engineers to lead the project, Rose said.

When the project was first unveiled it was met with opposition from neighbors who voiced concerns about excess noise, increased traffic and fears of overnight truck parking. Those concerns prompted Developer Marvin Rose of Carioca Co. to tweak the design, eliminating the potential for overflow truck parking.
