Trailer Fire & Snow Make Slow Going on I-17 in High Country

A trailer fire on I-17 near Camp Verde closed all southbound lanes before dawn this morning, and around 8:30 a.m. the right lane remained blocked at milepost 292. “Expect delays for next few hours before this can be removed,” ADOT said in a statement. All lanes re-opened at about 10 a.m.

Meanwhile, snow fell across a large area of the Arizona high country above 4,000 feet, ADOT said early this morning. “Many area roads have snow and ice on them this morning,” the agency said, advising drivers to “slow down.”

The agency reminded snow-seekers not to park along the highway: “Highway shoulders are for emergencies only, and parking on them endangers not only you and your party but those in other vehicles as well as first responders who may need to use the shoulder.”

Flagstaff expects a high of 35 degrees today under mostly sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service. On its web site, the town’s convention and visitor’s bureau has a list of acceptable places for playing in the snow.
