The westbound Loop 101 will close between State Route 51 and Cave Creek Road in northeast Phoenix from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, ADOT announced.
The westbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Tatum Boulevard also close, along with the northbound SR 51 ramp to westbound Loop 101. The westbound Loop 101 HOV lane ramp to southbound SR 51 will close. The closures are part of the freeway widening project.
DETOUR: Westbound Loop 101 traffic can detour on primary exit ramp to southbound SR 51 and use westbound Union Hills Drive or Bell Road to northbound Cave Creek Road to reach Loop 101. Westbound Loop 101 traffic exiting ahead of the closure at 56th Street or Tatum Boulevard can detour on westbound Deer Valley Road or Bell Road to Cave Creek Road. Northbound SR 51 drivers can consider using westbound Bell Road or Union Hills Drive to northbound Cave Creek Road while SR 51 ramp to westbound Loop 101 is closed.
Also, the westbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Seventh Street is now closed until March 2020 for construction, ADOT said. Alternate routes include the westbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Seventh Avenue.
The project, expected to be completed in early 2021, will address bottlenecks along the Loop 101 at I-17, Cave Creek Road, State Route 51, and Tatum Boulevard, officials say.
According to ADOT, here are some of the overall project plans:
- Add one general purpose lane in each direction between I-17 and Pima Road
- Add an auxiliary lane in each direction between Seventh Street and Cave Creek Road
- Modify freeway ramps and frontage road connections at 10 interchanges
The project also will include installation of quieter rubberized asphalt overlay, drainage improvements, unspecified technological upgrades, and other improvements.
