Funnier than ADOT? Vote for the Best Sign Idea

UPDATE March 1, 2017: ADOT has picked 20 finalists from nearly 7,000 submissions to its contest to generate humorous highway signs. Four of them are above. You can vote, now through March 15, to help determine the winner. “The submissions were clever and original, funny and serious, and on point,” ADOT said in a statement. The agency will pick two winners, rather than just one, given the number of quality entrants. Vote here: azdot.gov/signcontest

Original Story, posted Feb. 9, 2017:

Maybe you’ve seen the humorous safety signs over I-17 and other highways. Now’s your chance to see your slogan in lights. ADOT is having a competition. Entries due by Feb. 19.

ADOT will review submissions and select 15 messages to post on its website, then let the public decide the winner, explained John Halikowski, the agency’s director. The winning message will appear on the message signs for two days in April, the agency said.

“At ADOT, we have been placing unconventional safety messages on our overhead signs for more than a year,” Halikowski said [see some below]. “By tapping into the creativity of all Arizonans, we’re hoping to spark even more conversations about safe driving.”
