Water Problem Called ‘Dire’ in New River & Desert Hills

With well levels dropping and their supply of trucked-in water being cut off at the end of this year, residents in New River and Desert Hills face short- and long-term water problems that have no easy solutions. About 150 rural homeowners attended a sometimes contentious community meeting Sept. 19 to better understand their plight and hear about potential solutions.

Anthem Country Club Considers Raising Dues and Adding a Fee on Home Sales

The Anthem Country Club Community Association is considering raising dues in January and is also looking at instituting a quarter percent fee that would be collected at closing on properties sold. The latter fee, which would amount to $750 on a $300,000 home, would be in addition to a similar quarter percent fee that the Anthem Community Council collects on the sale of every home in Anthem.

Suspect Arrested After 2-Hour Manhunt in Anthem

What began as a domestic violence situation turned into a two-hour manhunt for a suspect that had reportedly stolen a vehicle in Anthem Friday morning. The chase, which led to nearby Arroyo Norte and back to Anthem and lasted into the early afternoon, ended when the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department determined the suspect’s identity, then subsequently found him.

APS Customers Who Refuse Smart Meters to Pay $5 Monthly Fee

The Arizona Corporation Commission yesterday approved a $5 monthly fee for APS electricity customers who opt out of using smart meters. These meters, considered the standard by APS, wirelessly communicate a home’s energy use to the utility, and in turn allow customers to review their energy usage patterns on APS’ web site in near-real time. The fee applies to just a handful of customers, however, and they likely know who they are.
