Public Meetings to Explain Rural Domestic Water Improvement District (DWID) Proposal

For 15 years, In&Out Magazine has been the definitive source of “Everything that’s going on” in and out of the community. We thank you, our readers, as well as the businesses that support the magazine through advertising, for that opportunity. But with little going on, and many businesses suspending or canceling their ads during the Covid-19 crisis, we are suspending publication of the magazine and web sites for the month of May.

In a series of public meetings, the community group New River/Desert Hills Water will explain a proposal to develop a Domestic Water Improvement District (DWID), which could work with government agencies and utilities to secure water rights and deliver water to residents.

A petition process allowing residents to join the DWID at no cost will close at the end of May 2018, organizers said. Residents can sign the petition at any of the meetings.

The proposal stems from knowledge that the aquifer under New River and Desert Hills has been dropping for decades, that some wells have gone dry, and the as-yet-unresolved situation in which the City of Phoenix plans to stop allowing its water to be hauled to rural residents, while EPCOR’s plans for a new water-hauling station have been stalled by permitting issues.

Community Meetings

Formal presentations will be made, followed by a Q&A session. At these meetings, each attendee 18 and up will get a free raffle ticket. Raffle prizes include 2,000-gallon loads of water delivered by area water haulers.
