No Garbage Rate Hike Planned for Anthem East Residents

Anthem East residents receive weekly trash and recycling services from Republic Services at a monthly rate of $18.63 per household. Republic Services’ Manager Stephen Herring said that changes to global standards within recycling markets has been leaving communities with difficult decision of scaling back or suspending recycling programs or passing increased costs on to residents [City of Phoenix Customers will soon see a rate change.]

While no rate-increase changes are planned for the immediate future, Herring told In&Out, “With continued market volatility, it is possible that Anthem East may need to have a future conversation about the rising costs of solid waste and recycling operations.”

For now, he says the best thing residents can do to keep recycling sustainable is to learn what to recycle and how to recycle.

“We urge everyone to make sure their recyclables are empty, clean and dry before placing them in a recycling bin,” Herring said. “In addition, we offer a range of resources and educational materials at www.recyclingsimplified.com. These are the best possible steps to both maintain environmentally important recycling programs as well as keep costs as low as possible.”
