The (Other) Persimmon (at Anthem Farmers Market)

For 15 years, In&Out Magazine has been the definitive source of “Everything that’s going on” in and out of the community. We thank you, our readers, as well as the businesses that support the magazine through advertising, for that opportunity. But with little going on, and many businesses suspending or canceling their ads during the Covid-19 crisis, we are suspending publication of the magazine and web sites for the month of May.

In addition to being the namesake of an Anthem Country Club golf course, persimmon is a sweet and soft tomato-shaped fruit. We found some amid the fresh fruits and vegetables at Anthem Farmers Market and couldn’t resist sharing. Persimmon texture and flavor are somewhere between a pear and a mango. They’re ripe when slightly soft, and fortuitously packed with fiber, antioxidants, vitamin A, manganese and other nutrients.
