Southbound I-17 Exit at Pinnacle Peak to Close for Several Weeks

For 15 years, In&Out Magazine has been the definitive source of “Everything that’s going on” in and out of the community. We thank you, our readers, as well as the businesses that support the magazine through advertising, for that opportunity. But with little going on, and many businesses suspending or canceling their ads during the Covid-19 crisis, we are suspending publication of the magazine and web sites for the month of May.

The southbound I-17 off-ramp at Pinnacle Peak Road will close in late September through mid-November as crews build now exit ramps as part of the new overpass under construction, ADOT announced. A specific date was not set. Alternate routes include:

  • Exit southbound I-17 at Jomax or Happy Valley roads and travel east to southbound 19th Avenue; or
  • Travel south on I-17 to the Deer Valley Road exit, then travel east to northbound 19th Avenue or west to northbound 35th Avenue.

Separately, some I-17 lane closures are planned for this weekend:

  • Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane between Pinnacle Peak and Happy Valley roads from 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, and from 10 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17.
  • Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to two lanes at Pinnacle Peak Road from 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 and narrowed to one lane between Happy Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18.

“Expect additional closures and restrictions on I-17, Pinnacle Peak and Happy Valley roads this fall as new off- and on-ramps are built, the existing Pinnacle Peak Road bridge is demolished, and traffic is switched onto the newly constructed westbound Pinnacle Peak Road bridge for the short-term,” the agency said in a statement.
