Why Seat Belts Are Smart
Among all the arguments for seat belts, this is a pretty dramatic one. From the Prescott Fire Department yesterday:
“Firefighters were surprised to find a crash scene right out Hollywood on Williamson Valley Road Sunday night. Dispatchers received reports of a three-vehicle accident near the entrance to Granite Mountain Middle School and responded engines from Central Arizona Fire & Medical Authority and Prescott Fire to the scene along with two Lifeline ambulances and a Prescott Battalion Chief. The CAFMA engine arrived first and found a white pickup sitting on top of a red sedan along with a black car with damage nearby.
“The woman driving the white pickup reported to firefighters that she had been headed northbound on Williamson Valley Road when a black truck traveling alongside her made contact with her, causing her to lose control. She reported that she then traveled into oncoming southbound traffic, where she collided with the black car. This impact caused her truck to flip through the air, where she then landed on top of the red sedan.
“There were two occupants in the red sedan, and one each in the black car and white truck. Most remarkable, no one was injured in this incident. All the people involved were wearing their seat belts. This is the second accident this week where the use of seatbelts has helped avert a tragedy and firefighters would once again like to remind everyone that the use of this simple device saves lives daily. The black truck which the driver said made contact with her truck left the scene. If anyone has any information regarding the accident, they are asked to contact the Prescott Police Department.”
