I-17 Lane Closures in North Phoenix Jan. 12-17

For 15 years, In&Out Magazine has been the definitive source of “Everything that’s going on” in and out of the community. We thank you, our readers, as well as the businesses that support the magazine through advertising, for that opportunity. But with little going on, and many businesses suspending or canceling their ads during the Covid-19 crisis, we are suspending publication of the magazine and web sites for the month of May.

Interstate 17 in north Phoenix will be restricted to one or two lanes at Happy Valley Road during overnight hours in coming days, as part of the new bridge construction, according to ADOT.

The Project

The new Pinnacle Peak Road overpass is now scheduled for completion in late May, 2020. It will have two through lanes and two left-turn lanes in each direction.

The new Happy Valley Road overpass should be finished two months later. It will be a “diverging diamond traffic interchange,” or DDI, involving two parallel bridges, with three lanes in each direction, in a setup ADOT says will improve traffic flow and safety [See “The Roundabout is Out,” Aug. 10, 2017.]

As part of the project, I-17 will be widened between the two interchanges from four lanes (including the HOV lane) to five in each direction. Expect a few more delays at both interchanges, while those new lanes are paved, through the end of October 2020, ADOT has told North Phoenix News.
