Fantasy Firefighting: Train Like a Real Firefighter

For 15 years, In&Out Magazine has been the definitive source of “Everything that’s going on” in and out of the community. We thank you, our readers, as well as the businesses that support the magazine through advertising, for that opportunity. But with little going on, and many businesses suspending or canceling their ads during the Covid-19 crisis, we are suspending publication of the magazine and web sites for the month of May.

Lots of kids say they want to be firefighters when they grow up. Only a few answer the calling. If you ever wondered what you were missing, now’s your chance to train like a firefighter or, if you prefer, just watch how it’s done while Daisy Mountain Fire & Medical crews guide the more daring though some of their usual drills.

You’ll don the equipment, pull a hose, and feel its awesome power as the water shoots out. Along the way, you can get certified in CPR and First Aid.

Participants must be 18 or older. Classes start Thursday, Jan. 2 and run for eight consecutive Thursday nights, plus an optional Saturday. Registration required.

What’s it Like?

What grads of the academy say…

“The DMFM Citizen’s Academy was not only exciting and fun, but fueled my dream further of becoming a firefighter… Being able to have a hands-on experience with the hose, airbags, the spreaders or jaws of life, and going up in the aerial ladder was a dream come true.”
Nicki Gatlin, 35, Phoenix

“This class gave me a new understanding and a healthier respect for just how kind, dedicated and certainly fit these men and women truly are.  I’m thrilled I stepped ‘outside my comfort zone” and took it!’
— Leah McGrath, 49, New River

“One of my favorite experiences was to handle a charged hose line and squirt water!”
— Carmen Hamerski, 62, Desert Hills

“The class is valuable, enlightening and a lot of FUN!”
— Neil Rifenbark, 72, New River
