Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-17 in the mountains north of Phoenix this afternoon that ended up being nowhere near as bad as it could have been. Photos from Daisy Mountain Fire & Medical showed a true cliffhanger that looked inches shy of disaster.

“Initial reports were that a semi had left the roadway and went off of a cliff,” the agency said in a statement. “You can see here, how close the driver came to having a catastrophic event. Fortunately this was a non-injury accident.”

The crash was near the Bumble Bee Road exit, affecting traffic only on the southbound offramp, said DMFM spokesperson Brent Fenton. The cause of the accident is under investigation by DPS, Fenton said.
