Suspect Arrested After 2-Hour Manhunt in Anthem

What began as a domestic violence situation turned into a two-hour manhunt for a suspect that had reportedly stolen a vehicle in Anthem Friday morning. The chase, which led to nearby Arroyo Norte and back to Anthem and lasted into the early afternoon, ended when the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department determined the suspect’s identity, then subsequently found him.

APS Customers Who Refuse Smart Meters to Pay $5 Monthly Fee

The Arizona Corporation Commission yesterday approved a $5 monthly fee for APS electricity customers who opt out of using smart meters. These meters, considered the standard by APS, wirelessly communicate a home’s energy use to the utility, and in turn allow customers to review their energy usage patterns on APS’ web site in near-real time. The fee applies to just a handful of customers, however, and they likely know who they are.

New River and Desert Hills residents are seeing smaller Wireless Communication Facilities (WCFs … aka cell towers) pop up, and some residents aren’t crazy about the noise they make. Meantime, even smaller WCFs will be coming soon to traffic-light poles around North Phoenix, thanks to new county and state laws aimed at helping cell phone providers keep up with mobile-phone bandwidth demand.
