K9 Dog Catches Assault Suspect in Anthem
Police arrested a minor last night near the Bela Rosa apartment complex in Anthem after the 17-year-old threatened a man with a “simulated handgun” and assaulted a sheriff’s deputy. A Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department K9 dog made the apprehension.
“About 9 p.m., a 17-year-old male threatened an adult male with a simulated handgun,” said Phoenix Police Sergeant Jonathan Howard. “He then assaulted an MCSO deputy who attempted to detain him before he fled the area on foot.”
Residents heard sirens and a chopper overhead during the chase.
The suspect “was located hiding near the apartments and apprehended by an MCSO canine,” Howard told North Phoenix News.
The suspect was booked into the Juvenile Correction Center for aggravated assault, aggravated assault on police, public urination and minor in possession of alcohol.
