Remembering the Fallen and the Missing

For 15 years, In&Out Magazine has been the definitive source of “Everything that’s going on” in and out of the community. We thank you, our readers, as well as the businesses that support the magazine through advertising, for that opportunity. But with little going on, and many businesses suspending or canceling their ads during the Covid-19 crisis, we are suspending publication of the magazine and web sites for the month of May.

A bell will ring for each missing or fallen veteran who is remembered during the annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Anthem Veterans Memorial.

Musical Theater of Anthem and the Arizona Veterans Band will provide music. The Sandra Day O’Connor Jr. Air Force ROTC and North Valley Young Marines will provide support.

Rear Admiral William Putnam (USN, Retired) will be the keynote speaker. Putnam served in the U.S. Navy from 1972-2000, commanding ships in the eastern Mediterranean. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, six awards of the Legion of Merit (one with Combat Distinguishing Device) and numerous personal and campaign awards from Vietnam to Desert Storm.

Parking and seating will be limited. Organizers advise arriving early and bringing blankets or chairs. Parking is available in the three community park lots, but the lot nearest the memorial is intended for veterans and those not able to walk long distances.

The ceremony, expected to run 45 to 60 minutes, will end with a rendition of “Taps.”
