New Salt Cave Found

For 15 years, In&Out Magazine has been the definitive source of “Everything that’s going on” in and out of the community. We thank you, our readers, as well as the businesses that support the magazine through advertising, for that opportunity. But with little going on, and many businesses suspending or canceling their ads during the Covid-19 crisis, we are suspending publication of the magazine and web sites for the month of May.

The walls and floors inside the newest cave in North Phoenix are made of Himalayan sea salt sourced from the Himalayas, said owner Sawana Grimmett. Yes, Spa by Sawana, inside Hair ’n’ Dipity Salon on Anthem’s west side, opened a salt cave.

During a 30- or 60-minute session, a generator grinds pharmaceutical-grade salt and pumps the microparticles into the air. The goal is to aid respiratory ailments by improving breathing. Beyond this, the centuries old Eastern European tradition is believed to aid in healthier skin, sounder sleep and overall wellness.

“We have guests come in for a wide variety of reasons, ranging from couples starting out their date night in the cave, to someone who’s been trying to get over a respiratory issue or cold, to moms of kiddos with asthma trying to help them sleep better at night, to moms coming in after dropping their kids at school to get a little ‘me’ time,” Grimmett said.
