Daisy Mountain Fire District Bans Open Burning

For 15 years, In&Out Magazine has been the definitive source of “Everything that’s going on” in and out of the community. We thank you, our readers, as well as the businesses that support the magazine through advertising, for that opportunity. But with little going on, and many businesses suspending or canceling their ads during the Covid-19 crisis, we are suspending publication of the magazine and web sites for the month of May.

A fire restriction has been issued covering Daisy Mountain Fire & Medical’s entire district, which comprises 200 unincorporated square miles of northern Maricopa County, including Anthem, New River, Desert Hills and Black Canyon City.

“Due to the extreme fire danger, the combination of low humidity, increasing temperatures and frequent high winds, DMFD is prohibiting any permitted open burning within the fire district area,” DMFM said in a statement.

Outdoor woodburning fires for the following purposes are not allowed through Sept. 30:

  • Warmth for human beings
  • Recreational purposes
  • Wood-burning chimeneas and outdoor pit

The DMFM ban is in place until Sept. 30.

An annual fire ban was already in place for all Maricopa County Parks. In addition, Maricopa County Department of Air quality regulates all outdoor fire activities, including within Phoenix and other incorporated cities, and places restrictions on when they are permitted.
