DVUSD Picks Two Finalists for Superintendent

The Deer Valley Unified School District (DVUSD) Governing Board said today it had selected a pair of final candidates to replace the outgoing superintendent. Dr. James Veitenheimer, in the role now, announced earlier this year he would retire at the end of the school year. The finalists:
Curtis Finch, currently superintendent at Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District in Big Rapids, Mich. Finch oversees five school districts, one charter academy and five parochial schools in two counties. (Intermediate school districts in Michigan are government entities that typically oversee multiple local districts.)
Steve Chestnut, currently superintendent of the Maricopa Unified School District. The district serves 6,500 students in six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school in Maricopa.
Parents, students, DVUSD staff and community members can meet the candidates and ask questions at a reception. Seating is limited. DVUSD previously sought public input on the hiring process via an online survey.
