Air Assault Tames 1,200-Acre Tee Fire Near Table Mesa

Forward progression has been stopped on a 1,200-acre wildfire 4 miles southeast of Black Canyon City, officials with the state Department of Forestry said today. A massive DC-10 jet was called in to help suppress the fire in rough terrain.

161-Acre ‘Badger Fire’ Closed I-17 North of Sunset Point Thursday

The Badger Fire burned roughly 50 acres and forced a shutdown of the northbound lanes of I-17 about five miles north of Sunset Point Rest Area today. By 7 p.m., forward progress was stopped and the fire was 50 percent contained.

50-Acre Wildfire in Black Canyon City Sends Smoke to Phoenix

A blaze in Black Canyon City that began Saturday night had burned 50 acres by 8 a.m. Sunday, fire officials said, prompting evacuations and an investigation to determine if it was arson. Shifting winds brought the smell of smoke into Anthem and parts of North Phoenix in the middle of the night, greeting Valley residents with a brown haze at dawn.

Smoldering 16-Acre Wildfire Near Anthem Under Investigation

A brush fire burned 16 acres in the New River Wash west of Anthem’s Parkside section Friday afternoon. The fire was smoldering into the night after crews from several fire agencies battled the blaze with hoses, shovels and a helicopter.

DMFD to Replace Fire Station 145 & Build New Offices

Daisy Mountain Fire Department plans to begin construction later this month on a new administration office building in Anthem as well as a replacement for Fire Station 145 in Desert Hills. Construction on both facilities is scheduled to begin March 27, with openings planned for late October.
